Abu Dhabi Yachting Cup 2014
October 25, 2014 - October 25, 2014
On 24-25 October, the Abu Dhabi Sailing & Yachting Club will again host the annual Abu Dhabi Yachting Cup. The regatta will be sailed from the prestigious Emirates Palace Marina, the premier location for yachting in Abu Dhabi as it opens up straight onto the Arabian Gulf.
This event is the first round of the 2014/15 UAE IRC Yachting Championship which is organized by the UAE Sailing & Rowing Federation. The second and final round will be hosted by Dubai Offshore Sailing Club in March 2015.
Set against the beautiful backdrop of the Abu Dhabi skyline, the regatta will take place in front of the Emirates Palace on both days. Racing will feature windward – leeward courses of approximately 1.5 Nm. On the final day, there will be a long costal race around Lulu Island finishing on the Abu Dhabi Corniche.
The regatta will see about 20 yachts and keelboats from different clubs in the UAE, such as Dubai Offshore Sailing Club, Emirates Heritage Club, Abu Dhabi Cruiser Association and Abu Dhabi Sailing & Yacht Club. Teams will include sailors of all nationalities mainly comprised of UAE nationals and residents.
The yachts will divided into 3 categories; non-spinnaker, sport boats and IRC Yachts. The non-spinnaker class is open to all participants. The sports boats class is focussing on smaller boats sailed mainly by younger sailors interested in learning about yachting. The main class is for the IRC yachts, which will feature the larger racing yachts.
The event will be organized in close cooperation with our partners;
